San Diego Day 3 - Balboa Park Christmas Eve

We went to a large park next to the Zoo called Balboa Park on Christmas Eve. The weather was beautiful and it was a nice surprise.

There were playgrounds, and a whole host of museums and old buildings from the 1930's. There are also artist studios on site.

We rode in a free trolley and Mads really liked that. We had to sing wheels on the bus quietly for him.

There were botanical gardens to look at. It was a dreamy place to be in December.

I think this photo below could have been our Christmas photo.

We had lunch at a cafe and watched people rent all kinds of bicycles from the shop next door.

There was an artists village that we roamed around. The kids loved the coloured cobblestone streets.

At the end, we watched and rode the carousel. It boomed Christmas carols.

We sat in a rocking sleigh on the carousel all together. It was quite scary, I kid you not! It rocked rapidly and made loud noises as though the wood was cracking under us.

I think we rode about 20 different trains in San Diego. This one was just outside of the Zoo. Bobs also got his face painted by a gypsy.

  1. There are some good pictures of Erik here too, but that blue ball cap looks awful.
