Mads and Bobs go to the Hospital
Mads and Bobs had ear tubes inserted on friday morning. They have had chronic infections in both of their ears for nearly 10 months now. They have tried antibiotics to no avail. Mads had three different types. Their ENT Dr. said the ear tubes would be the best course of action. He suspects they have 20% hearing loss. I think it is likely temporary as the ear tubes would correct this.
They were at the hospital with at least two dozen other kids getting the same procedure. It was like a very efficient assembly line.
They have been sick this week which didn't help. Mads is sleeping in the photo above pre-surgery from being so tired up coughing the night before. They decided to go ahead and do the procedure on Mads even though he had a bit of a fever. He had to have an IV line put in. They put them under using gas and then they added the IV. He was very angry when he woke up and wanted to rip it out.
Bobs did some crafts yesterday while we waited. He was really happy to do them. The Children's hospital did a really great job at making the process as comfortable and speedy as possible for the kids. We thought we were unusual having our two boys done at the same time, but there was a family next to us that had all three kids done! I can't imagine how extra stressful that must have been.
Bobs recovered well and ate a popsicle right away. Mads was more angry and said no to nearly everything. Mads felt better a few hours later and Bobs became more tired and uncomfortable. We are at home recovering today. It doesn't help that they are getting over their colds. I bought them some chocolate ice cream and let them open a gift early, as promised to them before the surgery.
