We decided on last minute camping in Drumheller this weekend.
We magically obtained a spot in a private campground in Drumheller that I have stayed at when I was 16.
We had 9 degrees the first night and 14 the second. Not bad considering it has been 2 degrees at night at home recently. Both boys slept pretty well. Mads woke up a lot the first night and was very excited to be sleeping together with everyone.
We thought it would be a bit more work, but it was definitely do-able and enjoyable, so we plan on doing it again next summer.
We don't own a tent, so we borrowed one from our neighbour.
I think the only thing we are missing is a Coleman stove and a tent for next year.
We made the weekend dinosaur themed and brought out the boys' dino toys.
Bobs enjoys roasting wieners, but he won't eat them.
Bobs will eat smores.
We tried having them sleep side by side, but that didn't work well, so each parent slept next to a child. No wait... Daddy slept with both boys on each side.
We went to the Royal Tyrrell Museum. Kids under 7 are free so it wasn't too steep for us. We only ended up staying an hour inside and out.
Mads was very excited to see dinosaur bones. He jumped up and down at the sight of them.
I too was in awe. I have taken dinosaur bones for granted and took a moment to think how amazing it is that these large creatures once lived on earth and that we are able to enjoy the bones they left behind to help us understand our place and history in this world.
We got to the the museum as soon as it opened and by the time we went outside, the place was very busy. In fact, Drumheller was a busy town this weekend. It must be like that all summer because there is so much to do for young families.
We tried a short hike with the boys, but they weren't really into it. It was pretty hot.
Good thing the splash park was nearby the camp ground. We went three times in one day ( and also a stop at the rec centre which has an outdoor pool, outdoor kiddie pool, indoor pool and hot tub).
