Living like locals in Kailua
Mormor and Morfar went back home late last night after another wonderful annual December trip to Honolulu. (4th in a row). We were so glad to be able to spend a few days with them.
We rented a mustang for Mads. He is pretty thrilled despite his face in that first photo. Too bad it isn't cherry red, but it's still pretty fun. We just barely fit all of our luggage into the back. Mads got car sick through the mountains when we did our 30 minute trek to the east side of Oahu.
We rented a small studio apartment that is part of a house, in Kihei. They don't have hotels in this city and rentals are hard to nab.
Daddy was fascinated by the old timers who were having a game of beach volleyball at the playground. He wanted to join in but was too shy. These guys were having beers, smoking and playing some of the best volleyball.
It was getting dark, but we wanted to see how far this amazing beach was. Five minutes down through the neighborhood and we were there. Mommy and Daddy have been here before in 2007 before Bobs was born. We like to think we scouted out these locations long ago in planning for this trip.
The beach is very windy which might explain why it isn't packed.
As Bobs entered the shower to rinse off from the beach, he spotted a very tiny gecko. We used a magazine to get him back outside.
